December 31 marks the 85th anniversary of one of the most famous and iconic representatives of modern cinema - British actor, director and producer Sir Anthony Hopkins.

Most people associate Hopkins' name with Dr. Hannibal Lecter from the films “The Silence of the Lambs” and “Hannibal”, although the list of film credits and acting roles of Hopkins is much wider. He starred in “Bram Stoker's Dracula”, “The Mask of Zorro”, “Amistad”, “Noah”, “Transformers: The Last Knight”, as Pierre Bezuhov in the British version of “War and Peace”, “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, “Legends of Autumn”, “Meet Joe Black”, “Thor”.

In total, the actor starred in 140 films. He is best known for his roles in film villains, although his talent permits him to play roles of any orientation - from intellectuals and caring parents to authoritarian leaders and psychopaths.

Anthony Hopkins has won two “Oscars”, in 1992 for his role in “The Silence of the Lambs” and in 2021 for “Father”. He is also a multiple winner of BAFTA awards (“The Silence of the Lambs”, “Shadowland”, “Father”, “War and Peace”), “Golden Globe”, “Emmy”, “San Sebastian”, “US Screen Actors Guild Awards”.

Less known as a musician and composer, Hopkins is nevertheless the author of several works for piano and violin and orchestra, as well as a waltz for a symphony orchestra.
