A festival dedicated to the beauty of the Turkmen horse breed was held in Bojnurd (Iran). Its aim is the popularization of these horses, also development of traditions of horse-breeding, Tehran Times reports.

35 horses from different Iranian provinces, including Tehran, Golestan, Semnan, and Khorasan Razavi, took part in the festival.

The festival is annually held in North Khorasan, one of the world’s largest genetic reserves of pure Turkmen horses.

As the source reports, Iran and Turkmenistan seek to put forward the Turkmen horses and their safeguarding practices as a candidate for inclusion in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Let’s remind that in Turkmenistan, since 1992, the National Holiday of the Turkmen Horse has been celebrated annually on the last Sunday of April. The holiday is dedicated to Ahalteke horses. This breed is considered the oldest of the cultivated breeds of horses, which is a reference.
