Turkmenistan will provide humanitarian aid to flood-stricken Pakistan

Turkmenistan will provide humanitarian assistance to the population of Pakistan in connection with the floods that occurred in this country due to heavy rains, which led to numerous casualties, injuries, and also large-scale destruction. The relevant Decree was signed today by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, announced the news program “Watan” of the Turkmen television.

The document instructs the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Ministry of Textile Industry, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs to donate medicines and medicines, goods and food products to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The document also instructs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organize the dispatch and transfer of humanitarian cargo to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in September 2022.

According to the UN, due to the ongoing weeks of heavy monsoon rains and floods across large areas of Pakistan, approximately 33 million people were affected, more than 1100 people died, and about 1600 were injured.

Almost 300 thousand houses were completely destroyed, and approximately 650 thousand more were damaged. The element destroyed crops on two million acres of land, killed about 735 thousand heads of livestock. Monsoon rains and melting glaciers have damaged communications infrastructure and road networks. According to preliminary estimates, almost 3500 km of roads and 150 bridges were damaged.

On August 27, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif appealed to the international community for help.

On August 28, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed condolences to the leadership of Pakistan in connection with the loss of life during this natural disaster.

On August 30, the UN released a plan to provide humanitarian assistance to Pakistanis. For its implementation, the Organization requested 160 million USD from donors.
