A one-time deferment from conscription for high school graduates has been legalized in Turkmenistan. A corresponding change was made to the Law of Turkmenistan “On State Youth Policy”, a new version of which was signed the day before by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, taking part in the VII Congress of the Magtymguly Youth Organization.
As stated in article 26 of the Law, published today in the newspaper “Turkmenistan”, “in order to achieve youth continuity of education and their professional orientation” a temporary deferral of young men who graduated from general educational institutions or special educational institutions from conscription for military service in accordance with the Law of Turkmenistan “On military duty and military service” is provided “with the condition of creating a one-time opportunity to participate in entrance examinations in institutions of higher professional and secondary professional education”.
The same article of the Law states that young people who have completed military service by conscription will have “a priority right for admission to state institutions of vocational education in case of successful completion of entrance examinations”.
