Milan became the Italian football champion under the leadership of head coach Stefano Pioli. In the final round of Serie A, “Milan” beat “Sassuolo” (3-0) on the road and, having scored 86 points, guaranteed themselves the trophy. “Inter” became the second.
“Milan” won the Italian Championship for the 19th time in its history, the last time the “Rossoneri” became national champions in the 2010/2011 season.
By taking the first place in the championship, “Milan” guaranteed its entry into the group stage of the Champions League. “Milan” is a sevenfold (1963, 1969, 1989, 1990, 1994, 2003, 2007) the winner of the Champions League (until 1992, the tournament was called the European Champions Cup).
Last season, “Inter” was the champion of Italy, and before that, for the last nine seasons, “Juventus” of Turin was the title holder.
