An international scientific meeting on the study and preservation of historical and cultural monuments of Turkmenistan was held in Ashgabat

The international scientific meeting “Historical and cultural monuments of Turkmenistan in the center of attention of the world community” was held today at the State Museum of the State Cultural Center of the country, the information program “Vatan” of the Turkmen television reports.

The event united Turkmen scientists-historians, archaeologists, art historians and cultural scientists, university professors and their foreign colleagues. Heads and leading researchers and experts of the largest scientific and cultural centers from Italy, Great Britain, Russia, France, the USA joined the meeting on digital communication. Almost all of them have participated in complex archaeological surveys and studies on the monuments of Turkmenistan for many years.

In the reports of scientists, the topics of using the latest technologies and equipment that contribute to the preservation and restoration of monuments were raised. The speakers shared their experience in the protection of unique archaeological sites of Turkmenistan and their exposition at the excavation site, provided historical data on successful international archaeological cooperation.

The reports devoted to the architecture of middle aged Abiwerd, Juma-mosque, found in the results of excavations in the Dandanakan fortress, the importance of historical and cultural monuments in the development of tourism, as well as historical science were read.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of “State Program for 2022-2028 for the careful preservation of objects of national historical and cultural heritage, their protection and study, attraction of tourists to them”.

A videofilm demonstrated at the plenary session of the international meeting, as well as an exhibition organized at the State Museum, was dedicated to the unique finds of archaeologists at the historical and cultural sites of Turkmenistan.

A new lavishly illustrated edition “Antiquities of Turkmenistan: scientific research and restoration of monuments”, prepared by the National Directorate of Turkmenistan for the protection, study and restoration of historical and cultural monuments, were presented to the participants of the international meeting.

Issues related to the study of objects of historical and cultural significance were widely covered in the reports presented during the four breakout sessions of the International Scientific Meeting “Historical and cultural monuments of Turkmenistan in the focus of world attention”.

We remind that currently there are more than 1,400 historical and cultural objects on the state register in Turkmenistan, a significant part of which are archaeological monuments.
