The voting results of the March 12 extraordinary presidential elections in Turkmenistan will be officially announced in the near future, the Watan News Program of the Turkmen Television reported following the meeting of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda in Turkmenistan held today.
As the Head of the CEC Gulmyrat Myradov said at the meeting, the counting of votes is currently ongoing.
As previously reported, the voting turnout was 97.12% of all voters. The CEC registered 3,435,950 voters.
To recap, the early elections in Turkmenistan were announced after the incumbent President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who had held this position for 15 years, announced his decision to move over in favor of a young leader retaining only the post of the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Milli Gengesh.
