Today, between the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Dovletmamed Azadi and the Government of Japan, a ceremony was held to sign a contract for the implementation of the grant “Project to equip equipment for teaching Japanese at the Turkmen National Institute of World Languages named after Dovletmamed Azadi”, according to a press release from the Embassy of Japan in Turkmenistan.
The project will be implemented within the framework of the program of the Government of Japan “Grass roots - grant assistance in the field of culture”. The contract was signed by the rector of D. Azadi TNIWL Maral Kulieva and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Turkmenistan Yamamoto Hiroyuki.
The new project provides for the conversion of three auditoriums of the Institute into a language laboratory, a room for simultaneous translation and a room for Japanese teachers.
The language laboratory will be equipped with audio-visual materials, and the simultaneous translation room will be equipped with modern computers, a projector, printers and other necessary equipment. The project is scheduled to be completed by autumn 2022.
Mr. Ambassador in his speech noted the following:
“The Azadi Institute of World Languages is the oldest institution with the longest history of teaching Japanese in Turkmenistan. Since its opening in 2007, it has graduated about 100 Japanese language specialists. Graduates teach Japanese in schools and universities throughout the country. Currently there are about 200 students here who study Japanese professionally under the guidance of about 10 Japanese teachers, one of whom teaches Japanese in a language program on local television.
His Excellency President Berdimuhamedov has shown great interest in spreading the Japanese language and has widely encouraged the public in the country to learn Japanese. The Japanese language department at the Institute was also created at the initiative of the President. We are pleasantly surprised and very pleased by the fact that the number of people learning Japanese in Turkmenistan has increased significantly over the past decade. I am deeply impressed by this trend."
The implementation of the project is timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Turkmenistan.
