Today, the Embassy of India in Ashgabat celebrated the Indian national holiday Makara Sankranti for the first time together with Turkmen friends, according to the social networks of the Embassy.
Colorful kites were launched into the blue Ashgabat sky. Also, the participants of the event created original patterns of rangoli - the folk art of India, when patterns are created from colored rice and sand, dry flour, flower petals on the floor in living rooms or courtyards.
Makara Sankranti is a holiday dedicated to the sun and the gifts of nature. It is celebrated annually on January 14-15, when the sun passes into the sign of Capricorn (Makara). So in India they see off the month of the winter solstice.
