The President of Turkmenistan in 2021 visited 5 countries within the framework of working and official visits. The total amount of time spent abroad by the President of the country was 6 days.

Visit to Tajikistan

On September 17, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov paid a working visit to Tajikistan. The Turkmen leader took part in the jubilee meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council as a guest of honor. On the sidelines of the summit, Berdimuhamedov also held a face-to-face meeting with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon and discussed with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi the resumption of Turkmen gas supplies to Iran.

Visit to Uzbekistan

On October 4-5, the President of Turkmenistan paid an official visit to Uzbekistan. As a result of high-level talks in Tashkent, 23 documents were signed between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, affecting the areas of trade, transport, transit traffic, water-saving technologies, as well as social protection, statistics, quarantine and plant protection, science and culture. Berdimuhamedov also met with ethnic Turkmens of Uzbekistan.

Visit to the UAE

On October 9, President Gurbanguly left for Dubai to participate in the opening of the national day of Turkmenistan at the “EXPO 2020” World Exhibition. In Dubai, the head of state met with the Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE. Following the visit to the United Arab Emirates, a number of documents were signed on investment and attraction of loans for the implementation of projects in Turkmenistan.

Visit to Turkey

One of the significant events was Berdimuhamedov's working visit to Istanbul in November. The purpose of the visit was to participate in the VIII summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking states. During the summit, the prospects for strengthening multifaceted interaction within the framework of the Turkic Council with an emphasis on the development of trade, digitalization, green technologies and other relevant areas were considered. On November 12, the head of state participated in the VIII summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States, at which Turkmenistan joined the organization as an observer. As a result of the summit, a number of important decisions were made, including the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States was renamed into the Organization of Turkic States. During the visit, the head of state also took part in the opening of a new office of the Secretariat of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States.

Visit to Russia

The final 2021 visit was a trip to St. Petersburg on December 28, during which Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in an informal meeting of the heads of state of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States. During the summit, the leaders of the CIS countries discussed the results of the joint work done within the framework of the Commonwealth, the prospects for the development of multilateral interaction and increasing the effectiveness of the Organization's activities.
