Ashgabat hosts training on effective governance in preventing corruption

A two-day online training course of the OSCE Center for Good Governance in Preventing and Combating Corruption was held in Ashgabat, “Turkmenistan: Golden Age” reports.

The event was aimed at creating a favorable investment climate and promoting sustainable economic development in Turkmenistan.

The training was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Economy, law enforcement agencies, the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, financial institutions and other relevant departments of the country.

The participants were addressed by international experts who introduced the best practices of the OSCE participating States in promoting the principles of good governance, as well as ensuring transparency and accountability in the public sector.

Having studied the roots of corruption based on World Bank research, the participants discussed effective mechanisms to prevent it, the impact on economic growth and the development of entrepreneurship. The issues of the emergence of electronic corruption were also considered.

John McGregor, Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, noted in his opening speech:

“Corruption is a key threat to good governance, democratic processes, economic stability and fair business practices”

The OSCE, together with its relevant structures, are consistently working to promote further political dialogue and knowledge exchange in this area, he added.
