Berdimuhamedov takes part in a meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov takes part in a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The event is held in the format of a videoconference under the chairmanship of Belarus.

According to the press service of the CIS Executive Committee, during the summit held in the jubilee year of the 30th anniversary of the creation of the CIS, the main results of multilateral cooperation within the framework of the Commonwealth will be summed up and prospects for its further development will be discussed. The heads of state will consider 11 issues. They will exchange views on cooperation in the Commonwealth format, and will decide on the chairmanship of the CIS in 2022.

It is assumed that Kazakhstan will chair the CIS next year.

The heads of state are to adopt six documents approved yesterday at a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth. One of the central ones will be the adoption of a statement on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Also, the relevant statements of the leaders of the CIS countries will be adopted on the issues of ensuring biological safety and the development of interaction in the field of migration.

Two documents related to cooperation in the field of security are also submitted to the meeting. As the CIS Executive Committee clarified, the matter concerns the Treaty on Counteracting the Legalization (Laundering) of Criminally Obtained Incomes, Terrorist Financing and the Financing of the Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction, as well as a decision concerning the head of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center. In addition, it is planned to approve the Agreement on the formation of the Council of Presidents of the Supreme Courts, as well as to declare the city of Comrat in Moldova the cultural capital of the Commonwealth in 2023.
