Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov is representing Turkmenistan at the two-day high-level conference on Afghanistan, which started today in Geneva in an online format. This is reported on the website of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The conference is co-chaired by the governments of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Republic of Finland and the United Nations.

This Conference brought together high-level representatives from more than 100 countries and international organizations and is dedicated to discussing the issues of comprehensive reconstruction of Afghanistan and joining efforts in the process of socio-economic development of the country. The focus is on achieving peace and security.

Rashid Meredov, speaking on the theme of the conference "Regional cooperation on Afghanistan", noted that Turkmenistan strives to contribute to international efforts aimed at strengthening the statehood, economic integration and well-being of the people of Afghanistan and is taking concrete steps to do so. Cooperation between the two neighboring countries is based on major projects and programs of a socio-economic and humanitarian nature.

The sides stressed the commitment of the Turkmen side to promote the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, power transmission lines and fiber-optic communication along the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan route, and the construction of railway lines from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.

The active partnership between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan is also evident in the humanitarian spectrum: a large number of Afghan students study in Turkmen universities.

The key activities of our country within the framework of Turkmenistan's humanitarian assistance Program for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in 2020-2022 were also highlighted, namely, Turkmenistan has built a school in Balkh province, a rural hospital in Farab province, and a maternity hospital in Herat province.

In the near future, a 500-seat mosque, also built by the Turkmen side, will be opened in Afghanistan.
