A telephone conversation took place between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, the State news Agency reported.
The leaders of the friendly States warmly greeted each other and exchanged greetings on the occasion of “Gurban bayramy”, the holy holiday for all Muslims.
Noting with satisfaction that bilateral cooperation is developing on the principles of good-neighborliness, friendship and equality, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani thanked the Turkmen leader for his special attention and personal contribution to strengthening fraternal relations and building up mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries.
During the conversation, topical issues of regional and global scale were discussed, in particular, the topic of the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused serious damage to the economy and life of many States and peoples, was touched upon.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that Turkmenistan fully supports the activities of the international community to combat COVID-19 and expressed his conviction that coordinated measures at the international level are necessary to successfully counter this threat.
The Turkmen leader highlighted the role of the lapis Lazuli transit and transport corridor, which will give the countries of Central and South Asia the opportunity to increase the volume of trade with European countries and will contribute to the development of trade and economic relations between major regions of the Eurasian continent.
In this regard, the agreements reached during the recent trilateral meeting of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan have become an important step for activating this transport corridor and cooperation on a systematic basis.
During the conversation, the importance of such large - scale projects in the field of energy, transport and communications as the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, as well as electric and fiber-optic lines along the route Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan, the implementation of which will serve to further strengthen interstate relations, was also stressed.
