Today, Italy celebrates Republic Day. In honor of this significant day, the photographer and Director of the Italian Institute of culture (IIC) in London, Marco Delogu, as a gift for the Republic Day, created an electronic guide to urban, including little-known, squares in Italy "(not) visible squares" ("Piazze (In)visibili"), the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in Turkmenistan reports.

The gift edition includes photos and original texts about 20 Italian squares. In the Preface the author explained the idea of creating a book:

"...When we think of Italian cities that attract visitors from all over the world, the Square immediately comes to mind. It is both a frame and a canvas on which palaces, temples and everyday life are depicted, which is in full swing. ... The square has become synonymous with cultural heritage, but it is also a place for meetings and social interaction, for trade and discussion of ideas. Italo Calvino wrote so in his "Invisible cities" (his name inspired the creation of this book): every time you enter the square, you find yourself drawn into a dialogue."

The book was initiated by several photographers and writers who, during the peak of the coronavirus pandemic in late March and early may, tell and describe their memories, suggestions, and reflections.

20 Italian squares-a symbol of the cultural heritage of Italy photographed at a historical moment-a period of great isolation and "suspension".

This high-quality publication brings together great names in Italian photography and literature with a new generation of writers and photographers.

The book also includes original photographs by Olivo Barbieri, Luca Campigotto, Michele Chera, Alessandro Dandini, Eva Frapichchini, Raffaela Mariniello and works by Edoardo Albinati, Carlo Carabba, Liliana Cavani, Helena

Janechek, Sandro Veronesi.

The e-book publication precedes a larger project that will be launched later in its full version.

The book is available for download.

Republic day of Italy (Festa della Repubblica italiana) is a public holiday dedicated to the events of June 2, 1946, when the citizens of the country chose the Republic as the form of government in a referendum.
