UNESCO representative Andrey Shevelev held an online training seminar for students of the Institute of international relations of the Ministry of foreign Affairs and the International University of Humanities and development on the significance of UNESCO projects.
The expert emphasized the importance of the initiatives announced by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov from the high rostrum of the UN, including those related to such global problems of our time as environmental protection, rational use of water and energy resources, ensuring food security, etc.
It was emphasized that Turkmenistan demonstrates a systematic approach to the implementation of the sustainable development Goals through UNESCO, in particular in the fields of education, natural, social and humanitarian Sciences, culture, communication and information.
Within the framework of the UNESCO Convention "On the protection of the world cultural and natural heritage", more than a thousand historical and cultural monuments have been identified and registered on the territory of Turkmenistan. Together with international experts, work is underway to prepare new nominations for consideration by the relevant Committees of the organization.
As noted, projects related to land use based on the conservation of ecosystems and bio resources, the creation of geo parks, and the use of information and communication technologies are considered promising.
A number of measures are also planned to build capacity to preserve cultural heritage along the Great silk road, to integrate sustainable tourism management into heritage management plans, and to protect the intangible cultural heritage, the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
