New tariffs have been approved for the transit of oil products from Turkmenistan through Azerbaijan and Georgia. This was agreed in Tbilisi by the railway companies of Georgia and Azerbaijan, signing an Agreement on seasonal transit of oil products from Turkmenistan at reduced tariffs. This was reported by TASS with reference to “The press service of Georgian railway” JSC.

Seasonal transportation of petroleum products includes the period from April 1 to November 1. The source also reports that the participants in the negotiations unanimously resolved the issue of a single tariff for the transportation of Turkmen oil and oil products.

“Georgian railway” JSC is confident that the reduced tariffs will help make the Azerbaijani-Georgian transport corridor for Turkmen oil competitive with the Volga-don channel of Russia.

Turkmenistan transported about 200 thousand tons of oil and oil products through Georgia from 2007 to 2008. However, due to the unstable situation in Georgia, the route has changed: through Makhachkala to Novorossiysk, the source said.

In 2015, after successful negotiations, Turkmen oil products were again exported to Europe via Georgia.

Only 1.3 thousand tons of Turkmen oil products passed through Georgia in 2016. At this stage, there are agreements on the transportation of one and a half million tons of oil annually from Turkmenistan to Georgia.
