In the framework of the project "Sustainable cities in Turkmenistan: a Comprehensive development of green cities in Ashgabat and Avaza", which is implemented by United Nations development Program, Global environment facility, jointly with the Ministry of agriculture and environmental protection of Turkmenistan, was purchased and installed specialized equipment for assessing and monitoring air condition Service the environmental control laboratories and provincial Directorates of nature protection of the Ministry of agriculture and protection of environment (MAaPE).

"In order to promote sustainable practices, develop and create green cities, it is very important to make decisions based on research and data obtained through collection and analysis using specialized equipment. That is why one of the tasks of our project is to improve the practice of assessing the state of the environment of the city of Ashgabat on various indicators and to build the capacity of the relevant departments in processing the received data and reporting on them, " said project Manager Batyr Ballyev.

The new equipment includes modern devices and methods for determining the concentrations of pollutants contained in industrial emissions and other sources of atmospheric pollution. Employees of the environmental control Service passed a 3-day training session, where they worked out and fixed theoretical and practical skills of working with new equipment. After the practical sessions at the end of the training, participants discussed further development and possible improvement of the existing environmental monitoring system.

The installation and use of this equipment will significantly improve the system for monitoring air pollution in Ashgabat and in velayat centers, and monitor air pollution at a qualitatively new level that meets the needs of the time. In addition, the measures taken to improve the monitoring system also will contribute to the main goal of the project is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through optimization of environmental control of the activities of industrial and manufacturing enterprises in the cities and around them.

Currently, as part of the project activities, specialized equipment is being purchased for assessing and monitoring the state of water resources, the UN press service in Turkmenistan reports.
