The OSCE will hold a conference on the regulation of virtual assets in Central Asia

On March 30, 2026, a high-level regional conference organized by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will be held in Almaty. The event will focus on countering money laundering risks associated with virtual assets in Central Asian countries.

Conference participants—representatives of central banks, financial supervisory authorities, financial intelligence units, prosecutors, and law enforcement agencies from the region—will discuss issues of regulation, supervision, and law enforcement in the area of cryptocurrencies and other digital assets. International experts and OSCE partners are also invited to participate.

The agenda includes cross-border risks associated with the criminal use of virtual assets, issues of aligning national legislation with FATF standards, as well as prospects for establishing public-private partnerships and a regional mechanism for rapid data exchange. Separately, the possibility of introducing a unified regional licensing system for virtual asset service providers is planned to be considered.

The conference is being held as part of an OSCE extra-budgetary project aimed at strengthening the institutional capacity of the organization's participating States and developing regional cooperation in combating financial crime using digital technologies.
