A child in Arizona survived five hours after being pronounced dead

An extraordinary incident occurred in the US state of Arizona: a child, declared dead by doctors, showed signs of life several hours later, aif.ru reports.

According to the Gilbert Police Department, emergency services were called to a private home on February 8 after a report of a child drowning in a backyard pool. Paramedics arrived on scene and administered first aid to the victim, who was hospitalized, but was pronounced dead approximately an hour later, at 18:20.

Around 23:30 that same day, police reported that the child showed signs of life. The baby was urgently transported to another hospital, where doctors were able to save him.

Emergency physician Frank LoVecchio called the incident an exceptional case, noting that when pronouncing death, specialists are required to ensure there is no heartbeat, movement, or blood pressure, as well as a normal body temperature. He speculated that the child may have been severely chilled in the water, making his pulse virtually imperceptible.

"In medicine, never say never," LoVecchio emphasized.
