The Head of the OHCHR Regional Office praised cooperation with Turkmenistan

Yesterday, representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan met with Matilda Bogner, Head of the Regional Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Central Asia.

According to the Mejlis website, the parties exchanged views on Turkmenistan's international initiatives, as well as on the legal status of neutrality and its role in ensuring global peace, as well as on the main areas of development of bilateral cooperation with the UN.

The Turkmen side noted that, in order to fulfill its human rights obligations, Turkmenistan attaches great importance to working with international organizations to improve national legislation.

It was noted that the OHCHR Regional Office for Central Asia is working to improve relations with governments of the region, intergovernmental organizations, civil society, the private sector and UN agencies, as well as to develop plans for the protection of human rights in the countries of Central Asia.

Matilda Bogner praised the ongoing cooperation with Turkmenistan in the areas of human rights, gender equality, and the rights of persons with disabilities, and expressed her continued readiness to continue this cooperation in the future, the source noted.
