S7 Airlines has launched a new eco-friendly option for members of its S7 Priority loyalty program. Passengers can now exchange in-flight meals for bonus miles, the carrier announced.
To earn miles, passengers must forego meals in advance. The amount earned depends on the meal type, class of travel, and duration of the flight: 50 miles are earned for forgoing a cereal bar, 100 miles for a sandwich, and 150 miles for a hot meal.
The company explained that this measure is aimed at reducing food and plastic waste: precise meal planning helps reduce waste volumes.
The service is available to adult passengers (over 18 years of age) traveling on fares that include meals.
This option is not available to Business Class and Economy Plus passengers. You can cancel your meal and earn miles when purchasing your ticket or in the "My Bookings" section of the airline's website or app no later than seven hours before departure.
S7 Airlines also noted that if you choose to use miles instead of a meal, you will not be able to order food from the paid menu on board.
