Representatives from Turkmenistan participated in a conference on reducing methane emissions in Abu Dhabi

A Turkmen delegation, including representatives from the “Turkmengaz” State Concern, the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, and the “Turkmennebit” State Concern, participated in the annual conference on the implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)'s Methane Partnership in the Oil and Gas Sector program. The conference was held from February 10-11 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, according to the website of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan.

The forum discussed the promotion of measurement-based reporting and methane emissions reduction in the oil and gas sector in accordance with the “Gold Standard”.

The conference brought together representatives from more than 150 leading member companies, accounting for over 42% of global oil and gas production, as well as government and academic partners.

The Turkmen delegation also held bilateral meetings with representatives of the World Bank and UNEP. Among the topics discussed at the meetings were a proposed grant project to establish a methane emissions monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) system, the source noted.
