Two meetings between Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Emperor Naruhito of Japan in 2025 symbolize the exceptionally good relations between the two countries. This was stated by Japanese Ambassador to Turkmenistan Sasaki Hiroshi at a reception celebrating the Emperor's birthday.
"During both visits to Japan (in 2025 – ed.), the esteemed President met with His Majesty the Emperor. It's a rare occurrence for a foreign leader to meet with the Emperor twice in one year, which also symbolizes the exceptionally good relations between Japan and Turkmenistan," the diplomat said, speaking in Turkmen.
As Sasaki Hiroshi noted, 2025 marked the year when the President of Turkmenistan visited Japan twice: in April to participate in EXPO 2025 in Osaka and in December to attend the "Central Asia + Japan" Dialogue Summit. According to the ambassador, significant progress was made in developing bilateral relations during the year, including the implementation of large-scale economic projects.
The Japanese Embassy plans to further expand its activities in 2026 compared to last year, including further business development for Japanese companies, support for Japanese language education, and cultural exchange, the diplomat added.
Emperor Naruhito will celebrate his 66th birthday on February 23.
