In the Italian town of Torre Lapillo, a 57-year-old resident of the Apulia region mistakenly threw away a tin box containing 20 gold bars worth approximately 120,000 euros, reports the RMF24 portal.
According to police, the man had been storing gold bars, accumulated over several years, in a tin box, which he accidentally threw in the trash. He only discovered the loss the following day and contacted law enforcement.
Police checked CCTV footage, which confirmed his version of events. It turned out that the garbage truck had already taken the container's contents to a landfill in the neighboring town of Ugento. A search was launched at the scene, during which the box containing all the ingots was recovered intact.
