Turkmenistan Strengthens International Energy Cooperation Ahead of OGT 2026

Turkmenistan continues to strengthen its position as a reliable international energy partner through the implementation of major gas, offshore and infrastructure projects, while expanding cooperation with leading global energy companies.

Recent developments across the country's energy sector highlight steady progress in several strategic areas, including the continued development of the Galkynysh Gas Field, implementation of the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) Gas Pipeline, offshore exploration in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea and the expansion of long-term partnerships with China and Malaysia.

Among the most significant milestones this year has been the continued development of Galkynysh, one of the world's largest natural gas fields. Phase IV of the project is expected to increase production capacity while creating new opportunities for engineering companies, EPC contractors and technology providers.

International cooperation has also continued to expand. Turkmenistan and China celebrated twenty years of strategic cooperation in the gas sector during a high-level international conference, while recent events marking thirty years of cooperation between Turkmenistan and PETRONAS demonstrated the strength of one of the country's longest-standing energy partnerships.

The offshore sector also continues to attract growing international attention. Agreements signed during the recent visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia include cooperation on Offshore Blocks 19 and 20 together with new seismic studies in the northern part of the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, opening additional opportunities for future exploration and investment.

Meanwhile, construction of the TAPI Gas Pipeline continues to advance. Once completed, the project will strengthen regional energy connectivity by supplying natural gas to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India while supporting economic development across Central and South Asia.

Many of these developments will be discussed during the 31st International Conference and Exhibition Oil & Gas of Turkmenistan (OGT 2026), which will take place in Ashgabat on 21–23 October 2026 under the theme "Energy. Partnership. Progress."

The event is expected to bring together government representatives, international energy companies, investors, engineering organisations and technology providers to discuss investment opportunities, technological innovation, offshore development, digital transformation, methane emissions reduction and future international cooperation.

With preparations continuing at full pace, OGT 2026 is expected to provide another important platform for dialogue, partnership and investment across the regional energy industry.
