Turkmenistan and Germany discussed expanding energy cooperation

The German Foreign Minister met with the foreign ministers of Central Asian countries in Berlin. Turkmenistan was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmet Gurbanov.

According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the meeting focused on developing energy cooperation and regional partnerships.

Speaking at the plenary session of the Central Asia-Germany format, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan noted the importance of strengthening the strategic dialogue between the countries of the region and Germany and thanked the German side for the high level of organization of the meeting.

He emphasized that the interaction between the Central Asian states and Germany is consistent and constructive, but also noted the need to reach a qualitatively new level of partnership.

The speech focused on regional security issues. The Turkmen side emphasized the importance of deepening political and diplomatic cooperation to maintain stability and predictability in Central Asia and adjacent regions.

Regarding the economic sector, Gurbanov noted the significant potential for cooperation with Germany. He named transportation and logistics, energy, industrial production, the chemical industry, mechanical engineering, medicine and pharmaceuticals, the agricultural sector, water management, as well as developments in information technology and artificial intelligence as priority areas. The Turkmen side noted the potential for establishing joint ventures, service centers, and educational centers in the region.

Turkmenistan highly praised Germany's role in promoting environmental initiatives, noting the contribution of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) to the implementation of relevant projects in the context of the climate agenda.

Gurbanov also emphasized the importance of the humanitarian dimension of the partnership, including the development of cultural, educational, scientific, and sports ties.

The meeting participants noted that Central Asian countries are important partners for Germany in energy, resource supply, and climate policy.

Following the meeting, the Berlin Ministerial Declaration was adopted, covering a wide range of areas of multilateral cooperation and intended to provide further impetus to the development of the “Central Asia-Germany” format.
