Canadian-American actress Catherine O'Hara died on Friday, January 30, at the age of 71. TMZ reported this, citing two sources. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
Catherine O'Hara was born on March 4, 1954, in Toronto. She rose to fame for her role as Macaulay Culkin's mother in the iconic Christmas films “Home Alone” (1990) and “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” (1992). The actress also played Moira Rose in 80 episodes of “Schitt's Creek” (2015-2020), for which she won an “Emmy” Award in 2020.
O'Hara's other notable credits include roles in the films “Beetlejuice” (1988) and “Beetlejuice 2” (2024), as well as appearances in the mockumentaries “Best in Show” (2000) and “A Mighty Wind” (2003). She received her first “Emmy” Award in 1982 for her work as a writer on the comedy show “SCTV Network 90”.
O'Hara's most recent role was in the Apple TV+ series "The Studio," starring Seth Rogen, for which she was nominated for an Emmy.
Catherine O'Hara was married to production designer Beau Welch, whom she met on the set of "Beetlejuice" in 1988. The couple had two sons, Matthew and Luke.
