Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Dmitry Maryasin, Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), to discuss developing cooperation in sustainable development, energy, transport and transit connectivity, and regional integration, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Maryasin arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the High-Level Week events of the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), which are taking place from January 20 to 23.
The Turkmen side reaffirmed its commitment to the UNECE mandate and noted the Commission's importance as an effective platform for implementing UN global decisions at the regional level. In this context, the importance of Turkmenistan's participation in the 71st session of the UNECE, which will be held in April 2025 at a high level, was emphasized.
Particular attention was paid to issues of sustainable energy, reduction of methane emissions, and the development of sustainable and safe transport corridors.
The parties also emphasized the importance of the practical implementation of the outcomes of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3) and the Avaza Action Programme for 2024–2034, in the implementation of which the UNECE is considered a key regional partner.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to further strengthen constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation.
