China's population will shrink by 3,39 million in 2025

China's population will decrease by 3,39 million people in 2025, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of China, RBK reports.

According to published data, 7,92 million people were born in the country, while the death toll was 11,31 million. The birth rate was recorded at 5,63 per thousand people, and the death rate was 8,04 per thousand. The natural population growth rate was negative, at -2,41 per thousand people.

By the end of the year, China's total population reached nearly 1,4 billion people. Men account for approximately 716 million people, while women account for approximately 688 million.

The working-age population (16–59 years) comprises approximately 851 million people, accounting for 60,6% of the total. The share of citizens over 60 reached 23% (approximately 323 million), of which 15,9% (approximately 223 million) are aged 65 and older.

The declining birth rate has already impacted the country's preschool system. According to data from China's Ministry of Education, cited by The Financial Times in July, the number of kindergarten students has fallen by 25% over four years, leading to the closure of tens of thousands of preschools across the country.
