On January 18, 2026, the HBO Max platform premiered “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”, the third project set in the “Game of Thrones” universe. The series is based on George R.R. Martin's collection of short stories, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”, originally known as “The Tales of Dunk and Egg”.
The action takes place 100 years before the events of “Game of Thrones”. The main characters are the knight Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, the future King Aegon V Targaryen. The series follows the journey of the young knight-errant and his royal companion across Westeros.
The first season consists of six episodes, each approximately an hour long. The lead roles are played by Peter Claffey as Duncan and Dexter Saul Ansell as Egg. The showrunner is Ira Parker, who previously wrote “House of the Dragon”. George R.R. Martin himself is among the executive producers.
The series received positive reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the project earned an 84% approval rating and a "Certified Fresh" status. On IMDb, the first episode received a 9.7 out of 10. Critics noted the project's more intimate scale, strong chemistry between the actors, and a departure from the epic nature of previous series in the franchise.
Production on the second season began in December 2025. New episodes of the first season will be released weekly until the end of February 2026.
