Maria Corina Machado presented her Nobel Prize medal to Donald Trump

Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado presented her medal to US President Donald Trump during a reception at the White House.

Machado drew a historical parallel with the events of two centuries ago, when French General Lafayette presented a medal bearing the image of George Washington to Simón Bolívar, Venezuela's national hero.

"Two hundred years later, the people of Bolívar present the President of the United States, Washington's heir, with a Nobel Prize medal in recognition of his commitment to our freedom," Machado said.

The US President thanked Machado, calling her "a remarkable woman who has been through so much." In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump described the gesture as "a beautiful gesture of mutual respect."

It should be noted that, according to the statutes of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, the Peace Prize is non-revocable and non-transferable.

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Maria Corina Machado in October 2025 for her efforts to promote democracy. The politician previously stated that the award belongs to the people of her country.
