Starting in 2026, more than 60 new road signs and plaques will appear on Russian roads. These innovations are aimed at regulating the movement of personal mobility vehicles, improving pedestrian safety, taking environmental factors into account, and improving traffic management in challenging urban conditions, reports RBK.
The changes are being introduced into the updated GOST R 52289-2019 and affect both stand-alone signs of various shapes—round, square, triangular, and rectangular—and plates containing additional information. Many of the new signs have already been tested in Moscow and have proven their effectiveness.
Key innovations include new pictograms for the "Paid Parking" sign, which inform about payment methods: mobile app, SMS, and other options. Each pictogram is considered a separate graphic symbol.
A "Stop Line" sign is also being introduced for areas where horizontal road markings are impossible, as is a "Recommended Speed When Driving Through Speed Bumps" sign, designed to improve driver comfort and reduce vehicle wear. Particular attention is being paid to the safety of vulnerable road users: a "Deaf Pedestrians" sign is being introduced to alert drivers to people with hearing impairments.
Changes have also affected parking space standards—their width along the roadway has been reduced from 2,5 to 2,25 meters, allowing for more efficient use of urban space.
The GOST standard was developed over three years with the participation of specialists from the Moscow Traffic Management Center (TsODD).
