The next Commonwealth of Independent States summit will be held on October 9, 2026, in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. This was announced by the National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a telephone conversation with Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, according to the “Watan” news program.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to continue multifaceted and systemic relations with Russia in the coming year in the spirit of bilateral strategic partnership, as well as cooperation in multilateral formats.
The National Leader of the Turkmen People noted that holding the CIS summit in Avaza was approved by a decision of the CIS Heads of State Council.
During the conversation, the importance of preparing events such as the Women's Dialogue, a meeting of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, and a Conference on Demography was emphasized as part of Turkmenistan's CIS chairmanship.
Turkmenistan will chair the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2026.
