Turkmenistan is developing freight transport along the “North-South” corridor

Turkmenistan is developing freight transport along the international “North-South” corridor, the country's Ministry of Railway Transport reports.

"The Ministry of Railway Transport of Turkmenistan is working to develop freight transportation along the “North-South” International Transport Corridor, increase the volume of transit and international freight, and consistently improve the types and quality of services provided for rail freight transportation, creating favorable tariff conditions for freight carriers," the statement said.

It is noted that, thanks to the use of the country's logistics capabilities, container cargo transportation has begun to be widely used to increase transit, import and export cargo transportation along the “North-South”, “Lazurit” and “East-West” international transport corridors through the territory of Turkmenistan.

"In January-November 2025, a total of 19000 container shipments were carried out from Turkmenistan, including 9250 transit, 5650 export, and 4100 import, which is 9405 containers more than in the same period last year," the department added.

In addition, during the 11 months of 2025, 63 container trains were transported along the routes Russia – Kazakhstan – Turkmenistan – Iran, Turkmenistan – Azerbaijan – Georgia – Türkiye – Europe, and Uzbekistan.
