Danish postal company PostNord will cease delivering physical letters on December 30, 2025. The decision to close this service is due to the population's transition to digital communication channels and the unprofitability of the traditional postal service, rg.ru reports.
Kim Pedersen, Deputy CEO of PostNord Denmark, called the decision a difficult one, given the country's 400-year history of letter delivery. He noted that the postal service has been a part of Danish history, but modern realities require change.
According to Pedersen, the number of people sending traditional letters has significantly decreased. Danes prefer to use digital technologies for communication. As a result, this segment of the business has ceased to generate profit for the company.
Statistics confirm the scale of the change: over the past 25 years, the volume of letters sent in Denmark has fallen by more than 90 percent.
The Danish postal service began operations in 1624. After ceasing letter delivery, PostNord will focus on parcel delivery, demand for which continues to grow amid the popularity of online shopping.
