Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who is on a working visit to Tokyo to participate in the first “Central Asia–Japan” Dialogue Summit, met with Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan Fukushiro Nukaga and Head of the Japanese branch of the Turkmen-Japanese Parliamentary Friendship Group Endo Toshiaki. The two sides discussed the development of bilateral cooperation, including interparliamentary ties.
According to the “Turkmenistan” newspaper, during the meetings, it was noted that Turkmenistan and Japan are actively cooperating within reputable international organizations, particularly the UN. The countries coordinate their actions internationally and support each other's initiatives aimed at ensuring global peace and sustainable development. Multilateral cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the “Central Asia-Japan” Dialogue is also developing.
Trade and economic cooperation is a key pillar of Turkmen-Japanese relations and is stable and long-term. Turkmenistan and major Japanese companies have accumulated extensive experience in collaborating across various sectors, including the gas and chemical industries. The need to strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties was also noted.
During the meetings, the importance of the National Leader of the Turkmen People's initiative to hold the first meeting of the heads of parliaments of Central Asian states and Japan in the "Central Asia-Japan" format was emphasized. Proposals were made to strengthen the work of the Turkmen-Japanese Parliamentary Friendship Group and launch a mechanism for interaction between women parliamentarians of the two countries.
