American automaker Ford plans to change its approach to electric vehicle production amid declining market demand, Reuters reports.
The automaker plans to replace the F-150 Lightning electric pickup with a hybrid version powered by an internal combustion engine. The company will also discontinue production of a new generation of electric pickups, codenamed T3.
Electric vehicle sales in the US fell by approximately 40% in November 2025 compared to previous periods. This occurred following the elimination of the 7500 USD federal tax credit in September of this year.
Due to strategic changes, Ford will record write-downs totaling 19,5 billion USD, the majority of which will be in 2026, Fortune reports. About 8,5 billion USD of this amount is due to the cancellation of previously planned electric vehicle models.
