A native of Turkmenistan, pilot-cosmonaut Oleg Dmitrievich Kononenko held a meeting with students of the A.A. Leonov Technological University, a branch of MIIGAiK, at the “Kosmos” Youth Center.
Hero of Russia and Hero of Turkmenistan, who holds the position of deputy head of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Research Institute of the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center" for cosmonaut training, shared with the youth fascinating stories from his space career. Oleg Dmitrievich told the students about what it is like to feel weightlessness and observe our planet from space.
"We got unforgettable emotions and impressions from the meeting with Oleg Dmitrievich! For us, it was an opportunity not only to sit at the same table with the cosmonaut, but also to talk to him personally. It felt as if we ourselves had been in space," shared their impressions third-year students Elizaveta Reent and Diana Ahmedeyeva.

Oleg Dmitrievich Kononenko was born on June 21, 1964 in Chardzhou (now Turkmenabad), Turkmen SSR. In 2024, he set a world record for the total time spent in space, spending more than 1000 days in orbit over five expeditions. In 2009, the cosmonaut was awarded the title of Hero of the Russian Federation, and in 2019, the title of Hero of Turkmenistan.
