The Turkmen State Publishing Service has released the third volume of the novel Beýik Seljukly (“Great Seljuks”) by Turkmen historian, scholar and national writer Yazmyrat Mammedi. The book has already gone on sale, reports “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.
In the first two volumes of the novel, the author talks about the ancient Oghuz, the medieval Oghuz-Turkmen khanates, the adoption of Islam, the descendant of Seljuk Dukak oglu, the migration of Turkmen tribes to Khorasan under the leadership of Chagry-bek and Togrul-bek, the wrath of Sultan Mesud, conflicts and the victory of the Seljuks in the Battle of Dandanakan.
The third volume describes the events associated with the Great Congress of the newly formed Seljuk state.
A special place in the book is given to the reign of Sultan Alp Arslan, who continued the work of Togrul-bek.
The culmination was the Battle of Manzikert (now the Turkish city and district of Malazgirt), where Alp Arslan crushed the huge army of the Byzantine Emperor Romanos IV Diogenes and captured him. This victory not only led to the creation of the great Seljuk Empire, but also brought Alp Arslan the title of "Sultan of Sultans," the source notes.
