Turkmenistan intends to involve experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the construction of the International Scientific and Clinical Oncology Center in Ashgabat, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported.

On Tuesday, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a meeting with the Director of the European Division of the Technical Cooperation Department of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Eve-Kulli Kala.

During the meeting, the parties noted the intensification of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IAEA in line with the main goal of the agency - the use of atomic energy to maintain peace, health and prosperity throughout the world.

The interlocutors discussed current and prospective joint projects, including in the field of modernization of the radiotherapy service, updating the legislative base on radiation safety.

The parties also discussed the progress of the development of the IAEA Framework Program for Turkmenistan.

In addition, issues of involving IAEA experts in the construction of the International Scientific and Clinical Oncology Center in Ashgabat were discussed.

The parties also noted the importance of interaction between the IAEA departments and relevant agencies of Turkmenistan.

The construction of the International Scientific and Clinical Oncology Center is underway in the northern part of Ashgabat in the Choganly residential complex. The center is designed for 500 beds. The medical facility will house specialized diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation departments for the treatment of oncological diseases.
