The name Muhammad is rapidly gaining popularity and now ranks first in the ranking of the most popular names for boys in England and Wales, gazeta.ru reports with reference to DailyMail.
According to the UK Office for National Statistics, more than 4600 newborn boys were named Muhammad in 2023.
At the same time, there has been a decline in the popularity of names such as Noah and Oliver, which traditionally occupied leading positions in the ranking.
Interestingly, this is the first time that the name Muhammad in its single spelling has taken the top spot. However, given the variety of spellings of this name, its popularity has generally remained high for over a decade.
Among female names, Olivia remains the leader, holding the top spot for the eighth year in a row. She is followed by Amelia and Isla.
In addition, names such as Margot and Kilian have grown in popularity. Analysts attribute the rise in popularity of these names to the recent “Barbenheimer” phenomenon.
