DreamWorks Animation studio shared information on social networks about the release of the fifth film in the popular animated series “Shrek”. The new chapter of the story about the famous green ogre will be released on July 1, 2026, Film.ru reports with reference to Deadline.

The original stars Mike Myers (Shrek), Cameron Diaz (Fiona) and Eddie Murphy (Donkey) will return to voice key characters. Murphy has already confirmed that he has begun work on his role by recording the first batch of dialogue.

The actor also hinted at the development of a separate project dedicated to his character, Donkey.

The “Shrek” franchise, which started in 2001, tells the adventures of a hermit ogre whose quiet life in the swamp changes dramatically after meeting Princess Fiona. During its existence, the cartoon series has collected an impressive amount of 3 billion USD at the global box office.
