The national team of Turkmenistan lost to Iran in the match of the 3rd round of the second qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a score of 0:5. The meeting took place at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.
Persepolis defender Hossein Kanaani scored a double for the Iranian national team, Roma forward Serdar Azmun, Rostov midfielder Mohammad Mohebi and Sepahan defender Omid Nurafkan scored one goal each.
After three rounds of the qualifying tournament for the 2026 World Cup, the Turkmenistan national team ranks third in Group E. In the first game at home, the Turkmen football players lost to the Uzbekistan team with a score of 1:3, and in the second they tied 2:2 away with the Hong Kong team.
On March 26, Turkmenistan will play with Iran in Ashgabat.
