The meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov with the Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia, Richard Komenda, was held in Ashgabat.

As the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports, the parties discussed the main aspects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UNHCHR, including the implementation of the obligations assumed and the implementation of the provisions of human rights conventions to which Turkmenistan is a party.

The Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan noted that the preparation of reports and reports to the UN treaty bodies is one of the areas of joint activity and expressed readiness to further strengthen the potential of interaction. Moreover, the readiness of the country to participate in the processes to improve the capacity of the Ombudsman institution, the introduction of educational programs and the holding of regional events was also confirmed.

Gratitude was expressed to the UN OHCHR for the support of national human rights institutions, in the first turn the Office of the Ombudsmen, also the organization of joint events aimed at promoting education in the sphere of human rights.

The Turkmen side expressed interest in participating in a number of significant UN events, such as implementation of the UN Secretary General's Call for Action in the Interests of Human Rights, the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as the 30th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Program of Action.
