The UAE national football team will play a match for the right to continue the fight for a ticket to the 2022 World Cup with the Australian team.

The UAE team defeated the Republic of Korea with a score of 1:0 in the home match of the 2022 World Cup Asian Qualifier. Harib Al-Maazmi scored the only goal in the 53rd minute.

The national team of Iran took first place with 25 points in the group A standings, the representatives of the Republic of Korea came second (23), both teams were selected for the World Cup in Qatar back in winter. The UAE team finished third (12). 9 points has Iraq, Lebanon and Syria have 6 points each.

To the World Cup from group B advanced the teams of Japan and Saudi Arabia. In the third place remained the Australian team.

The national teams of the United Arab Emirates and Australia took third places in their groups and will play among themselves for the right to compete for a ticket to the World Cup with the fifth team of the CONMEBOL zone (South America). The play-off in the AFC zone between the UAE and Australia will be held on June 7. The Intercontinental play-offs are scheduled for June 13-14.

The national team of UAE has never played in the World Cup. The Australians have played the World Cup five times. The best result of the Green Continent team was reaching the 1/8 finals in 2006 in Germany.

At the moment 21 participants in the final tournament are known. This is Qatar – the host team, representatives of the AFC – Iran, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and also Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Croatia, Germany, England – from UEFA, Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Uruguay for CONMEBOL, Canada for CONCACAF and Ghana for CAF.
