Turkmenistan aims at expanding relations with Russia in a wide range of areas. Today, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov stated it at the talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow, TASS reports.
"Yesterday, sending our delegation to Moscow, the distinguished President of Turkmenistan paid special attention to this working visit when meeting with the members of the Cabinet of Ministers and heads of the regions of the republic. In particular, the President of Turkmenistan said very clearly that strategic partnership with the Russian Federation is one of the priorities of Turkmenistan's foreign policy. Reasoning from this fact, we are certainly aimed at further development and expansion of our relations in a wide range of areas," R. Meredov said.
The Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Russia regularly meet with each other both in bilateral and multilateral formats.
Last year, following the talks in Moscow, the Foreign Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Biological Safety between the Governments of Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation. And they discussed topical areas of bilateral cooperation by phone on the eve of today's talks, on February 17 of this year.
