Seven companies are participating in the tender for the project to build the first underground gas storage facility in Turkmenistan

Seven companies are participating in the tender for the design of an underground gas storage (UGS) facility in Turkmenistan, including representatives from Austria, Germany, Türkiye, and other countries. This was announced to journalists by Maksat Babayev, Chairman of the state concern "Turkmengaz," at a press conference following the "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2026" international exhibition and conference.

According to Babayev, the proposals submitted by the participants are currently under review, and this stage is nearing completion. In the near future, Turkmengas will select a winner to carry out the front-end engineering design (FEED) for the storage facility. He noted that the project is among the corporation’s top priorities.

It was previously reported that in March 2026, Turkmengaz announced a pre-qualification process for an international tender to develop the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for an underground gas storage (UGS) facility. The facility is planned to be established at the former Odjak gas-condensate field in the northeastern part of the country. The projected capacity of the UGS facility is 5 billion cubic meters of gas.

The "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan – 2026" international conference and exhibition took place in Ashgabat from October 21 to 23. It brought together approximately 1,7 thousand delegates from 75 countries, representing more than 450 companies and international organizations. The forum was organized by the state concerns "Turkmengaz" and "Turkmennebit," the State Corporation "Turkmengeology," and the company Turkmen Energy Forum (TEF).
