As of September 1, 2026, the share of cashless transactions within Turkmenistan's card payment system stood at 47,6%, compared to 44,3% on the same date in 2025. This follows from data presented by Myratdurdy Orazdurdyyev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the country’s Central Bank, during his address at the Turkmenistan Investment Forum (TIF-2026) in Ashgabat.
The volume of cashless transactions conducted via ATMs, terminals, internet and mobile banking systems, e-commerce, and "Halkbankterminal" increased 1,16-fold (by 16,3%) over the year, reaching 16,27 billion manats.
In his remarks, Orazdurdyev noted that the development of the banking system is being carried out within the framework of the Concept for the Development of the Digital Economy in Turkmenistan for 2026–2028. This concept envisages, among other things, transforming credit institutions into high-tech banks, reducing cash circulation, and implementing advanced digitalization standards.
According to him, the Central Bank is continuing its work to develop banking infrastructure and the national payment system. Payment system software and hardware are being modernized, and digital solutions are being implemented to enhance the speed, reliability, and security of payments and settlements. Particular attention is being paid to information security and cybersecurity.
The Turkmenistan Investment Forum is taking place in Ashgabat on October 1–2. It is attended by more than 750 delegates from 50 countries, including representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, international financial organizations, and the private sector.
