Speech by the President of Turkmenistan at the Turkmen-Korean High-Level Business Forum

Within the framework of his state visit to the Republic of Korea, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov participated in the high-level Turkmenistan-Korea Business Forum. TDH has published the text of the head of state's address.

Distinguished representatives of the South Korean business community!

Ladies and gentlemen!

First of all, allow me to thank the organizers for the invitation to speak before such a distinguished and respected audience.

We are currently discussing promising projects with executives and representatives of leading Korean companies, aimed at further developing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea in the trade, economic, and investment spheres.

Our countries share a long-standing, constructive relationship, in which economic partnership plays a special role.

Over the years of Turkmenistan’s independence, Korean companies have gained extensive experience operating in the country. In this regard, notable examples include the construction—in partnership with LX International Corp and Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd.—of a natural gas desulfurization plant at the Galkynysh gas field and a polymer plant in Kiyanly. In addition, with the participation of SK Networks, work was carried out in Ashgabat to install a road traffic safety system and provide consulting services.

The majority of public transport in Turkmenistan consists of buses and passenger cars manufactured in Korea.

A number of investment projects are currently being implemented in Turkmenistan with the participation of Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd., Korea Meditech Co., Ltd., and other Korean companies. Negotiations are underway regarding promising projects set to launch in the near future.

To date, 17 investment projects with a total value exceeding 12 billion US dollars have been registered in Turkmenistan with the participation of Korean companies. This serves as clear evidence that Korean businesspeople view Turkmenistan as a reliable partner and highlights the significant potential of our bilateral relations.

Dear friends!

We regard the Republic of Korea not only as an important technology and investment partner but also as a nation possessing advanced expertise in industrial modernization, digitalization, and the development of high-tech manufacturing. Turkmenistan, for its part, possesses abundant natural resources, a stable energy base, a favorable geographical location, and extensive opportunities for implementing large-scale investment projects.

We are interested in attracting Korean technologies, investments, and management expertise to the petrochemical, chemical, energy, transport, and other sectors.

The development of transport and logistics support systems represents a promising area.

Turkmenistan has great opportunities to strengthen its position as an important transport and logistics center of the Eurasian continent, connecting Central Asia with the Caspian region and other directions of international transport corridors. We are ready to consider the participation of Korean companies in relevant projects to create infrastructure systems.

We attach great importance to cooperation in the chemical industry.

Korean companies possess extensive experience in implementing large-scale manufacturing projects, creating favorable opportunities for realizing new ventures in the production of mineral fertilizers, petrochemicals, and other types of industrial products.

I would particularly like to highlight the potential for cooperation in the fields of medicine and healthcare. Currently, Korean companies are participating in the development of a modern medical cluster in the city of Arkadag.

We view this area as a promising avenue for future partnership in the implementation of advanced medical technologies and the training of specialists.

Ladies and gentlemen!

We are ready to create all the necessary conditions and provide comprehensive support to the Korean business community in implementing promising joint projects in our country.

I am confident that our meeting today will mark another important step in strengthening business cooperation between our countries and will help identify new, concrete projects that serve our mutual interests.
